news in san francisco. a huge water break after a car slammed into a fire hydrant about an hour ago. cbs 5 reporter cate caugiran is by folsom and 2nd and joins us live in the city with more. i guess they got it capped, but it was really something about a half hour ago or so, right? >> reporter: that's exactly right, frank. the new concern now is actually structural safety. i want to show you, they blocked off the roads in this area. that is essex off of folsom here and they say they're going to block all four lanes right there because they want to sort of assess the damage of what happened. but we want to show you some video that we shot earlier. you can get a look at that gushing water at least 40 feet high is what we're told. and about 1,000 -- tens of thousands of gallons of water that had come out of that break. now, from what we could see, that car knocked the hydrant completely out. we heard reports this started just before 4 a.m. this morning. san francisco police told us officers were trying to pull over this car at 4th and howard for a minor traffic vial violation. the dri

- hand side there, northbound as you drive towards san francisco. 7:06. here's steve. >>> all right, tara. for some to the north, things have calmed down. for others it's pouring. some reports anywhere from tiburon, pacifica, san francisco, the marina district, danville hills, belmont to san jose and mountain view and there's a window. some of the totals, about a .50 to 1.50. right over the marina district about 15 minutes ago. it was pouring. looks like things have let up. moderate to heavy rain. some moderate to heavy rain there over towards emeryville, the bay bridge, berkeley, oakland. you can see the red. that's pretty heavy. coming in right back to the east bay. you can see stretching there from concord, san ramon, 680 corridor, dublin, pleasanton, livermore, back to san ramon, pretty good line also from heyed -- hayward. back to the peninsula, there's been enhancement, especially san mateo, belmont, woodside. right along the san mateo coast near skyline, now stretching to the santa cruz mountains. south coast, woodstock, you can see mountain view head heading up and just getting to
the bay area, you'll see mostly clear skies. here's a live look at downtown san francisco through the financial district, temperatures in the 30s and 40s. oakland at 58 degrees. low 50s in san jose. what's in store for the rest of the day. we have a pretty strong ridge of high pressure and it's been building since other the weekend. it continues into today through the afternoon. we'll be keeping temperatures mainly in the 60s for the most part. mid- to upper 60s by this afternoon, and once again, we have some big changes coming up by about midweek, so you'll notice this wednesday forecast. we have a good chance of rain moving across the bay area and things again remain unsettled through the weekend coming about friday night into saturday. we'll talk more about this coming up. in the meantime, traffic on this monday morning. >>> we just got word of a trouble spot involving a big rig that may have took out some power lines on fair month between 580 and lake shaboe . try toe avoid the intersection. san leandro, 580 and lake shaboe. elsewhere we have road work, southbound 101 through
supplies are in good shape because of all of this. the san francisco public utility commission tells us it's reservoirs are at 83% of capacity. east bay, five reservoirs, a combined 85%. and one of the santa clara valley water district's biggest rainwater reservoirs, the lexington, is at 63%. still room for rain down there. >>> two people are dead of a getting washed into the water on the marin side of the golden gate bridge yesterday afternoon. a third person was able to make it back to shore and call 911. the coast barred and the tiburon fire department were not able to save a man and boy who were spotted in the water near the north tower of the golden gate bridge. sky 7hd was overhead as the rescue boats returned with both victims on board. their bodies were recovered just after five. they were pronounced dead when they arrived at a coast guard station. >> the unit shortly arrived within 25 minutes and recovered two bodies, one male adult and one child. those subjects were later pronounced deceased. >> a high surf advisory was in effect at the time they got swept away. >>> police mate a

ground vaults in san francisco including one in union square in 2005 that sent a manhole cover into the air and injured a passerby. they suspended employees when they claimed to check equipment when they did not. >> a man is scheduled on to be in court today. steven reid died at monday at a hospital after he and his girlfriend were found tied up in the middle of the street. police believe they were victims of a brutal home invasions by a group of acquaint and in the vis it station valley neighborhood. one is suspected to be arraigned and three suspectings who are woman are to be at the hearing. >> a robbers hit pharmacies in dublin and pleasanton. this map shows the four stores the men targeted yesterday. in each case the robber handed over a note demanding prescription drugs and claiming to be armed. they think two or more people are working as a team. >> eric: a woman is recovering after falling into the bay off the embarcadero. it happened between waterfront restaurant and ferry building. she was quickly rescued and she appear to be intoxicated. the woman was taken to the ho

have firefighters and san francisco police here on scene. they were able to cap whatever that break was, that water main break over here. let me tell you how it happened. we have video from earlier. you can see just how high the water was gushing. just before 4:00 this morning san francisco police were trying to pull over a car for a minor traffic violation and then that car crashed into a fire hydrant. right now it is a suspected dui. we were told this basically san francisco police tried to pull over that car right around 4th and howard and the driver crashed at folsom and essex. the driver was taken into custody. we aren't sure if that driver sustained any injuries. earlier on footage we were able to see the driver being taken away in some kind of neck brace. we aren't sure about the status of that driver at this point in time. but we had unconfirmed reports that that car over there in that corner is actually a rental car so we don't know where the driver is from. we hope to get more information. i think my photographer made a good point, hopefully that driver had insurance. it appea

homeless. this is in san francisco. it ripped through several apartment buildings. that fire broke out just after 9:30 yesterday morning on 23rd street, quickly spread to the near by buildings. firefighters worked for almost 2 the hours to contain it. 5 unit buildings were involved. three of them appear to be a total loss. no one was injured. the red cross is helping people forced out of their homes. they're opening up a center today for those people. >>> police announced the arrest of three more suspects in the murder of a man. raveesh kumar kumra former own of the famed mountain winery was killed during a home invasion on november 30th. police say that lucas anderson, javier garcia and deanglo austin were arrested. 22-year-old raven dixon was also arrested. police are not released details about what led to the arrest or the relationships between the suspects. three major cities with two days to go oakland is at 130 homicides for the year. 26% increase from 2011. san francisco 67 homicides so far. 1/3 increase over last night. san jose is 45, still low for a city of almost a million people

in the middle of the san francisco street. cbs 5 reporter joe vazquez is at the murder scene with information on the aliases some of the suspects went by. >> reporter: we're in the 3700 block of san bruno and in this home here behind me, this is where two of the women who were arrested happen to live. it's also the place where two men ganged up on the male victim and two women ganged up on the female victim, beat them and gagged them and left them for dead. according to court documents, the two male suspects one carrying a gun went inside this home at 3733 san bruno avenue assaulted the male victim, 26- year-old steve reed and tied his hands behind his back. then prosecutors say suspects beat the female victim 19-year- old audrey prado, hog-tied her arms to her ankles and gagged her with a sock. last night a resident told cbs 5 reporter linda yee that the police took key evidence away including bedding. >> she had it in her room. >> reporter: like what, computer? >> computer, mattresses. >> reporter: mattresses? >> like beds. >> reporter: police believe one of the suspects shot steven reed i
